OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM BAIN The death occurred on Wednesday of Mr William L. Bain, 86 years of age, a well-known resident of South Dunedin for many years. He was born at Cherry Farm, Waikouaiti, in 1852, during the period of the notable Johnny Jones, but lived in Dunedin for the greater part of his life. He wasy predeceased by his wife several years ago, and of a family of nine children eight are still living. Four sons served during the Great War, one being killed in action. The sons are James, Charles, Eric (Dunedin) ? Andrew (Queensland), and Jack (Napier), Henry being killed during the battle of the Somme in 1916. The daughters are Mrs Westfield and Mrs Donaldson (Dunedin) and Mrs Gibson (Christchurch). Deceased was acquainted with the Rev Mr Watkin, the ‘first Methodist missionary in Otago, and was the oldest remaining pupd of Wakari School, the jubilee of which he had hoped to attend. Deceased was one of five brothers, all of whom' have passed away within the past two years at an advanced age. John Siam died at 95 years, James at 89, Andrew at 82, George at 84. and William at 86. MR H. G. CARMAN ' _____ (Per United Press Association.] ELTHAM, November 25. The death occurred this morning of Mr Henry George Carman, a prominent business man, who took a leading part in public affairs in Eltham tor 36 years. He was elected chairman of the Taranaki Electric Power Board in 1922, and held office until his retirement this year, when he retained membership of the board as representative of Eltham. He served many years on the Borough Council, the Chamber of Commerce, and other local institutions. He was a foundation member of the bowling club, of which he was a life member at the time of his deathBorn at Onehunga 65 years ago, Mr Carman went to live at Wellington with his parents at a very early age. His wife predeceased him five years ago, and he is survived by one son, two daughters, three brothers, and two sisters. REV. ARTHUR HARDING WELLINGTON. November 25. The death is reported of the Rev. Arthur Harding, of Lower Hutt, official chaplain to the Wellington Hospital, aged 77. The deceased was for many years a well-known minister of the Methodist Church. MRS M. A. GUY WELLINGTON, November 25. The death occurred to-night of Mrs Mary Ann Guy, of Miramar, AVellington. Mrs Guy, who was in her ninetyfifth year, was born in Wellington, where she resided continuously 1899. Before that, she lived at Nelson and later at Palmerston North. Mrs Guy’s descendants number 100.
