"GRANDMOTHER" OF THE ABORIGINES
Mrs Daisy Bates. upon whom the blacks of Australia long ago conferred blood brotherhood and the jtitle of Karhali, or Grandmother, returned to civilisation in 1935 to write her autobiography and to place on record her unique experiences. Her hook, entitled ‘ The Passing of the Aborigines: A Lifetime Spent Among the Natives of Australia,’ is expected soon. It relates how the author, while Queen Victoria was still on the Throne, sailed for Australia ~ originally as 1 The Times ’ correspondent. to investigate questions concerning the treatment of the aborigines. Becoming immersed in welfare work among them, she remained as their physician and friend, dedicating her life to their service.
