CHANGES IN PORTFOLIOS NEW APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, October 27. (Received October 28, at 10 a.m.) The Earl of Stanhope has been appointed First Lord of the Admiralty and Earl do la Warr Minister of Education. It is understood that Mr Malcolm MacDonald will continue to combine the portfolios of Colonies and Dominions.

KING HOLDS PRIVY COUNCIL. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 27. .(Received October 28, at 11 a.m.) The King held a Privy Council, at which Earl Stanhope kissed the King’s hands on his appointment as First Lord of the Admiralty, and an Order in Council was made. Their Majesties later left for Sandringham. [The Earl of Stanhope served in the Great War and was Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office in 1918, Civil Lord of the Admiralty from 1924 to 1929, Under-Secretary for War from 1931 to 1934, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs 1934-1936, First Commissioner of Works with a seat in the Cabinet 1936-1937, and President of the Board of Education from 1937 to his present appointment. Earl de la Warr, who has been Lord Privy Sea! since 1937, is 38 years of age. He served as a sailor during the war and was Lord-in-Waiting to the King from 1924 to 1931. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education from 1935 to 1936, and Under-Secretary for Colonies from 1936 to 1937.]
