MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Halfmoon Bay;— Yesterday’s depression has passed eastwards, and an anti-cyclone is advancing across the North Tasman Sea. A shallow secondary depression was located this morning, however, over the Cook Strait area. , Forecast: Moderate south-westerly to westerly winds turning to north-westerly tomorrow. Some scattered showers at first, but weather mainly fair to fine. Temperatures cool. Seas rather rough in parts of western areas, otherwise moderate. LOCAL CONDITIONS. Rain continued to fall last night and early this morning, and, if anything, was rather heavier than during the afternoon. However, for the most part the night was mild, despite a light breeze, which freshened towards morning. As the forenoon progressed, some sunshine made an appearance to make conditions more pleasant, though a moderate south-westerly breeze had sprung up. By 1 o’clock this afternoon, however, this had dropped appreciably, and the atmosphere was almost calm. The respective maximum and minimum thermometer registrations at the Gardens at this time from 9 a.m. were 57.4 deg and 51deg. as compared with the 24-hour recordings of 54.4 deg and 42.3 deg yesterday from the same nour. Barometric pressure at 1 p.m. was rising at 29.65 in, indicating that the improvement this morning would be maintained during the afternoon.
