PURCHASE OF BOYS’ CAMP SITE The monthly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors was held on* Tuesday, the president (Mr J. M'Ara) occupying the chair. The secretary (Mr J. H. Don Miller) reported that membership figures had increased and finances had again been increased hv the generous support of the community. The tepid swimming pool was being well patronised by the public, and several primary and secondary schools were having sessions regularly. The Optimists’ Club had been largely attended and many addresses delivered. The residential department had been able to provide suitable conditions for an increasing number of young men under 20 years of age. The boys’ work director (Mr G. IR. Pitkethley) reported that the aggregate attendances to date were 15,010, as against 13.175 last year, and the physical director (Mr C. W. Postgate) reported a good year in all gymnasium work. The board dealt with matters pertaining to the new boys’ camp site at Waitati, consisting of 20 acres of land with a four-roomed house and outbuildings, and bounded .by the Waitati stream, which had been purchased. The situation, it was stated, was ideal and would provide a happy, healthy holiday for Dunedin boys for all time. Hell) in purchasing the property had already been offered, and it was hoped that the association’s friends would assist to finance the purchase.
