MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held last night, there being present Mr J. \V. Dove (in the chair), Mr A. Steel, Mr W. H. M'Leod, Mr D. M'Lennan, Mr R. Walls, Dr W. Newlands. Mr A. F. Quelch, Mrs A. Fraser. Mrs D. G. M'Millan, and Miss B. Farquhar. STATISTICS. In his report for the month of September the superintendent (Dr J. Thomson) stated that the total number of patients treated in the Dunedin Hospital was 892. Of the 539 discharged 282 had recovered, 205 were relieved, 23 were unrelieved, and 29 had died. Minor operations performed numbered 101, and major 104. Out-patients treated numbered 2,501. There wore two attendances in the tuberculosis department, 2,076 in the physio-therapy department, 385 received light therapy, 387 were X-rayed, 537 attended the therapy department, and 18 radium therapy. Outdoor _ medical relief was given in 60 cases, visits numbering 283, The report was adopted. LAUNDRY COSTS. It was reported that the cost involved in the laundry at Talboys Homo during the period from April to September was £3,157 11s lid, compared with £2.417 2s 5d for the same period last year.
Thfe number of pieces washed in the six months this year was 874,922, against last year’s 755,964, the respective costs a dozen pieces being 10s 4d and 9s 2d, and the costs a dozen, excluding repairs and maintenance, 9s 4d and 8s 7d. SICK NURSES. Moving the adoption of the Hospital Committee’s report, the Chairman said it was noted that quite a formidable list of nurses had been on the sick list, but fortunately not all at the same time. Only six were now laid aside He had had the opportunity of conferring with the Minister of Health, who had promised that he would consider immediately the matter of sterilisers and other equipment, and would io everything possible to facilitate the board’s interest. The report was adopted. ACCOUNTS REMITTED. Accounts amounting to £4,091 3s 9d were remitted.
