The final mid-day community sing of the season was held in the Strand Theatre to-day, when tfce session took the form of a special children’s day. The theatre was again packed, and under the leadership of Big Brother Bill, old voices combined harmoniously with young in singing favourite numbers. Messrs J. F. Hamburg, Harry Marsden, and A. Pettitt (pianist) assisted Big Brother Bill, who, responding to numerous requests, sang ‘ Silver Threads among the Gold.’ Special items were presented by Miss Anita Winkel’s pupils and Master Hen Walker, the boy contralto, who rendered ‘ Mother Machree ’ and ‘ln an Old-fashioned Town.’ Mr M'Nair, a former leader of the Christchurch community sing, was introduced to the audience. A “ mystery parcel ” put up for auction was sold three times, bringing in a total sum of £lB. The first buyers were the Dunedin Fire Brigade boys, who sent the price up to £lO, then came Mr Arthur Paape with £5. and finally Mrs J. Robson, of Waikawa, with £3, to whom the parcel was sold. The collection, with donations promised, is expected to total £4O. HUSKY THROAT EPIDEMIC. This being election year, it is safe to count on a fairly general epidemic of husky throats.
