WHIPPET NOTES

(By Speed.)

The Dunedin Club holds its monthly meeting to-morrow, when the Hsppy Dav’s Cup and Edmonds Cup will be competed for. The nominations t- a re good and excellent racing should be witnessed. Mr Young produced a nice pup named Swiftcourse, at the last meeting, and he ran nicely, too. A win for this owner would be very popular. Mesdames Tanner and Donaldson have King Pepper in good condition, and the St. Leger winner, is due for another win. , , . . The club has made a lot of improvements to the grandstand, and the club’s thanks are due to Messrs Kemp and Tanner. C. N. Unwin’s Signalman ran a good race to win the last open hurdles. Signalman is a very proficient jumper, but lacks that extra bit of pace that would make him a winner more often. F. Tanner’s Happy Win was unfortunate in hitting a hurdle very hard at her last start, otherwise she would have won. ..... W H. Turner has his big team in steady work, and is sure to win a race at the meeting. Blue Vision and Atom should shape well, as they are doing good track work. Silver Tom, although giving away starts to other dogs, should run prominently in the EdP. M'Kinlay’s Phantom Gold is the goods. The next Waterloo and Mountney Memorial Cups should come her way. This lightweight is brilliant. Daivn o’ Day, from the same kennel, is improving all the time. The c’.ub has suffered a severe loss in the death of Mr N. F. Payton. Besides holding office in kindred sports Mr Payton was past-president and present' vice-president of the Dunedin Whipoct Club, and also treasurer of the National Whippet Pacing Association. He was quiet and unassuming in his ways, and very popular with all lie came in contact with Don Hutchinson has Refund looking well, and if this dog would put some energy into bis work, he would soon win a cup race.

The club is fortunate in having a large number of puppies racing. It is from these that the club will get its future racing dogs, which helps to make better fields and more interesting racing. Mr W. Butler has resigned his position as judge. Mr Butler was very efficient, and bis decisions correctly and promptly given. The club will miss the genial Bill in the judge’s box. Tamerlane, owned by W. Guthrie, is moving along nicely, and has hopes of winning a race shortly. This dog is to be nominated for the New Zealand Challenge Shield, to be run in Christchurch next month, and he should give a good account'of himself. Hugmee is the only dog from Alex. Hensleigh’s kennel that will be nominated for this meeting, and the Improvers’ Handicap may see him first to the judge. The writer visited Charlie Menhinnick’s kennels last week. The dogs have nice boxes, with a good exercise yard. Irish Paddy, owned in partnership with Randle De Courcey, was first inspected. Irish Paddy is by Star Master out of Petal Pine, and what a nice pup he is—he has plenty of size and moves sweetly over the ground. This pup is going to follow in the footsteps of his sire and win many races. What beats this pup in the Nursery Handicap to-morrow should win. War Chief is looking exceptionally well, and has been a good winner to date. King Midas also looks a picture, and is likely to win the Edmond Cup. Hazelwood was in the breeding pen, and mothering two nice puppies, the sire being War Chief. Charlie is a newcomer, and his ability to train dogs has rewarded him with nine wins to date. A. Mitchell’s White Gold is a clinking puppy—two starts and two wins is his record, [f he can grow to a 261 b dog bis future is assured. J. M'Neill has Superess in good order for the meeting. Superess was unlucky last meeting. Irish Paddy and Superess should fight out the finish of the Nursery Handicap. Mrs Hutchinson is putting in a lob of time with Clifton Prince and El Cougar, and they should run prominently next start. Mrs Guthrie is nominating Gold Plight and Say When Mon for the next meeting. Say When Mon is in the Maiden Hurdles, and he will make the bigger dogs travel, too. This miniature is a pretty jumper. Gold Flight is in great heart and should run well. Jim M'Mullan’s Night Queen is going well at present. This is a good dog. and is due to create a surprise on Saturday. Mrs C. N. Unwin’s Osborne Laddie is well, and may win the double. He is on a good mark in both races Mr J. Berry has a nice pup by Starmaster out of Petal Pine. When properly matured this pup will be the goods. Master Star is the name

The following dogs should run prominently to-morrow :—lrish Paddy. Osborne Laddie, Atom. Suppress. King Midas Tamerlane, and White Gold
