CLAVERLY MYSTERY
A MISSING WOMAN POLICE COMBING DISTRICT PORTIONS OF BEACH ALSO BEING DUG . OVER [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. With a large contingent of police still combing the countryside no trace has yet been found of Mrs Harriet Jane Patience, aged 60, wife of Arthur John Patience, a Public Works employee. Under Detective-sergeant J. Bickerdike men are scouring the hills at the back of the former Public Works camp at Claverly, and it is understood that portions of the beach are being dug over. Missing since October 4, Mrs Patience was at the time of her disappearance living at Claverly, where her husband was employed at the South Island Main Trunk camp. Nothing has been heard of her since. Police assistance was re-quisitioned,-and on Monday nine members of the Christchurch police force were sent to Claverly, where they are now camped. Superintendent A. Cameron and Chief-detective W. H. Dunlop left Christchurch this morning by car for the scene of the police activity. In the meantime an intensive search continues. The police are being aided by Public Works employees in the district. The main camp has, however, been moved to Taratuhi, further along tho South Island Main Trunk line, and there are fewer men in the Claverly district now.
