N.Z. BASKETBALL TEAM
COMPETING IN STATE TOURNAMENT WIN AGAINST QUEENSLAND MELBOURNE, August 15. New Zealand defeated Queensland by 13 to 9 in the first game of the 'Australian interstate basketball contest. New Zealand’s good positional play attracted attention, and _ the side was notable for sure handling and swift passing. The Australian footwork rules were a great handicap and the players were continually penalised. The score at half-time was: New Zealand 6, Queensland 5. In the second spell New Zealand improved, putting up good defence, and interceptions by M. Matangi and J. Mitchell kept the Queensland score down. Windv conditions made accurate shooting difficult. The team comprised M. .Matangi, J. Mitchell, E. Sinclair, M. Marton, J. Wilson, K. Neame. .]. Tyre]l. Victoria defeated New South Wales by 3S to 8 and South Australia defeated Tasmania by 34 to 12.
An exhibition match under New Zealand rules will be played.
