' . MEETING 8F SOCIETY The meeting of the Model Engineer, ing Society, held ;on Saturday evening* was well attended, Mr Russell Douglas being chairman. The rules were recently revised by the council,.and th* Chairman read the proposed alterations. The matter was deferred until the 1 next meeting in order to enable members to become acquainted with the rules before finally accepting them. A further presentation was made to the prize fund by Mr W. Angus—for the first model aeroplane to fly with an engine of fiveeighth bore or less for the duration ot one minute. It was decided to assist the exhibition of the Boy Scouts as far as possible by the loan of some modeiS. Several models of interest were brought to the meeting, and included lathe fac* plates, I.C; engine, clodkv built in connecting rod, and locomotive cylinders. Mr W. H. Earland gave a short talk entitled ‘ Hints On Lathes,’ giving reasons to support the advantages of certain types of construction over less efficient methods of manufacture. Many questions were; asked, which Mr Earland answered, and a general discussion ensued. Mr T. Turner assisted to clear up problems relating to taper turning, and a vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Earland and Turner. Six new; members were elected.
