RESIDENTS MAROONED
FLOOD WATERS AT ELLERBLIE MAO ACCESS CUT IFF [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 2. Marooned by flood waters to a deptK of over 2ft fronting their property, residents in four houses in the Great South road at Ellerslie have been with-, out road access since Saturday. To obtain provisions the residents have to walk across roughly improvised duckboards in their back yards, cross a rocky, blackberry-infested section, climb over a stone wall, and walk along the railway line to the road. One re-, sident, Mr E. A. Booth, who was putting tne finishing touches to a pair of stilts, suggested that the fir© brigade should pump the water out of the section There are still 10ft of water afj the back of his house, and all sorts of flotsam and jetsam float around the house. , Nest door there are numerous eel* swimming oyer the front lawn, _ and a boy spends most of his time fishing for them off the verandah. The residents also complain that corn tents from the Ellerslie septic tank dei posit filth on the ground when the flood waters subside.
