CHRISTCHURCH RATES
ADVANCE ON LAST YEAR [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August 1. The striking of a general rate for the current financial year of 2|d in the £ on the unimproved value was authorised by the Christchurch City Council tonight. The rate is gd higher than it was last year. The estimated expenditure is £241,006 —£.50,666 mire than last year and £71,000 more than the previous year. This year’s expenditure, however, included £27,800 for works begun last year but not completed. The increased general rate is estimated to provide £134,691. which, with the credit balance of £42.413 at April 1 and license fees, etc., will make up the required sura of £241,096. There will be a transfer of £32,000 from the quarry account. 1 ut none from the funds of the Municipal Electricity Department.
