BUSINESS PEOPLE ENCOURAGE SWINDLERS
[Pbs United Phess Association.]
AUCKLAND, July 28,
“ This case shows how easily business people can be taken down. They almost encourage ipeonle to swindle them,” said Mr Orr Walker, S.M., in reluctantly extending probation to Allen James Thorburn (50), who pleaded guilty to five charges of obtaining sums totalling £2O by means of valueless cheques. “ It seems to be getting easier every year,” said Detective-sergeant M.'Hugh, “As long as a man has a plausible tongue and is well dressed, they hand the money over easily.” Thorburn told the magistrate he was temporarily short of money, and was expecting money to be paid into the bank. ,
