BRITAIN’S NEW “FLYING BATTLESHIPS.”—Britain is to.build an Air Navy of flying “battleships,” giant air boats capable of 3.000-mile ocean cruises, carrying bombs and guns. They will be the first war air boats in the world to be fitted with revolving gun turrets, which are situated in the tail. The Sunderland, flagship of the new fleet, is to make a demonstration cruise to Singapore with a crew of six men. The speed and exact range of the air battleships are still secrets. The picture shows the revolving gun turret in the tail or the Sunderland. An idea of the immensity of these new machines is given by comparison with the man in the turret.
