CHRISTIAN DEMOCRACY

TRANSLATING ETHICS INTO ACTION APPEAL BY CRUSADE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE I Pen united Press Associatiob.i AUCKLAND. June 3. Concern at the world-wide tendencies toward war is expressed in the first oi a series of ” Clarion Calls to Clnistians,” issued by the Crusade for Social Justice. The Crusade also makes an appeal to all men and women to work for the immediate establishment of a Christian democracy. The call is signed by the patrons of the movement, Archbishop Averill, the Very Rev. T. H. Roseveare, the Rev. Percy Pans, the Rev; A. C. Nelson. Brigadier A. J. Suter, Pastor A. G. Saunders, and Mr F. W. Horner. “As we consider the world in which we live, we are impressed, on the one hand, by the possibilities of the material well-being which result from man si conquest of Nature,” it is stated. On the other hand, we see insecurity, unemployment, and malnutrition, even id this much-blessed land. We see, too. throughout the world an economic conflict extending to political and factional strife and bringing the nations to the verge of war. We consider that only by uniting in the building of a social order based on God’s laws of unity and love will these difficulties be met. This unity will lead to the'building up of a Christian democracy in which the political, economic, and financial systems will be based on Christian principles. Thus, and only thus, will the general body of people have an opportunity of enjoying the bountiful gifts of the beneficent Creator. ■ “ We therefore call upon all men and women of goodwill to work for the immediate establishment of a Christian democracy, and thus translate Christian ethics into action in every department of life.” .
