THE 8.8. C. BEES
The 8.8. C. has had a happy inspiration in the promotion of spelling bees. Some critics may imagine that they have “ bees in their 1 bonnet ” as well as in their abbreviated title, and be disposed to criticise their broadcasts, but everyone must admit that the spelling bee has brought variety • and gaiety into the programme. Moreover, it has helped to restore a feeling of cheerfulness to those Scots who had become obsessed with the idea that the southern partner had become too predominant. It is rather cheering to find that the Scot can beat the Englishman in the spelling of the English language; and this success in the spelling hee. following the aeV’evements on the football field at Twickenham and at Wembley, may do a litile to imuel us to ask oucc more, “ Wha’s like us?"— 1 Weekly Scotsman.’
