[FnoM Oca Oamaru Correspondent.] OAMARU BOROUGH ESTIMATES. The estimated expenditure of the Oamaru Borough Council for the year is £54,788, an increase of £1,262 on last year’s estimates, but £lßl less than the actual expenditure. The principal increases are in interest and principal of loans, £320, Waitaki Hospital Board levy £379, and gasworks £3BO. The estimated receipts are £28,523,' including gasworks £12,885, waterworks and sanitation £5,800, rents ' £2,700, and Town Hall rents £1,600. The rates are to be increased by 3d in the £ to 4s 3d. Ross presided over, the May meeting of the Herbert branch of the Presbyterian Women?s Missionary Union. Contributions were received from Mrs Howie and family, and parcels to be sent to the Maori field, Tokoanui. Missionary letters from Mrs Notts, ge (New Hebrides) and Miss Yansen (China) were read, and also a paper on home missions.. WOMEN’S CLUB. There was a good attendance at th® monthly evening of the Arts and Crafts Circle of the North Otago Women’s Club. Miss Walter arranged interesting displays of handwork and- demonstrated beadwork, rug-making, woolcraft, cushion smocking, and artello twist. Others who assisted were Mrs H. R. Wise (poker work), Mrs Nixon. Miss M‘Donald, and Miss Jones. Miss M. Marwick proposed a vote of thanks to Miss Walter and those who assisted. ON THE FARMS. May was an excellent month for th® farmer in North Otago. The weather was dry. and mild, and the pastures made good growth. Stock is in great condition and there is ample winter feed. Wheatgrowers have been able to get well ahead with sowing and th® soil is in first class order. The acreage sown does not appear to be as large as last year. WAITAKI OLD BOYS. The annual report of the Oamaru branch of the Waitaki Old Boys’ Association states that the membership at April 30 was 274, an increase of 19. The annual ball was an outstanding social success. The Founders’ Day functions were well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. The committee records appreciation of the services of Mr J. T. Armstrong, former chairman, who has moved to Auckland, and Mr L. E. Barsdell, a member of the committee, who has gone to Sydney. Members who have gone to other branches are Messrs R. W. Crombie (now Christchurch), R. S. Barsdell (now Wellington), and K. G. Frater (now Timaru). The committee thanks the Press and all "who helped to make the year a successful one.
