PARLIAMENT OPENS JUNE 28 SHOULD RISE IN THREE MONTHS (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 2. An announcement that Parliament would assemble for the despatch of business on Tuesday, June 28, was made this evening by the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage). The session, which was expected to last about three months, would: be the last of the present Parliament. . Mr Savage said that, in view of certain exigencies, chiefly the necessity for the passing of an Imprest Supply Bill before the end of June, Cabinet had considered it advisable to call Parliament together one day earlier than was announced last week. “After the Imprest Supply Bill has been passed, we shall go ahead with the Address-in-Reply debate,” said Mr Savage. “We hope to have the Budget introduced by the time this debate is finished, so that we will then be able to go. straight on with the financial debate. “Following the conclusion of the discussion on the Financial Statement, the way will be clear, for the introduction legislation dealing with the Government’s Superannuation and Free Health Service proposals.” In reply to a question as to when the report of the Special Parliamentary Committee which examined theSocial Security proposals was likely to appear, Mr Savage said it should be possible to present this document within the first day or so of the session.

The caucus of the Opposition members in the House of Representatives concluded this evening. Their Leader (Mr A. Hamilton) subsequently • stated- that the Opposition members of. . the, Special Parliamentary Committee which examined the Government’s Social Security proposals—Mr J. G. Cobbe (Oroua), Mr S. G. Holland (Christchurch), and Mr H. = S. S. Kyle (Riccarton)— had reported to the caucus on these proposals. 7
