A STAGGERING STATEMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have before me a copy of a circular addressed to all National Party candidates. It says: “ National Party speakers must remember that their first duty Is to oppose the arguments and promises of the present Socialist Government. Oppose I Oppose 1 Oppose!” The circular goes on to say: “That is the essential duty of Nationalist speakers. Use every possible play of words; every fact that you can advance to show that your opponents are fools, political hypocrites, opportunists, seekers of power, despots, traitors to their own class, to their country or their Empire. If a speaker can achieve this he has achieved the most essential thing.” Those are the instructions issued to Nationalist candidates. Doubtless, after reading this statement, your readers will join me in offering congratulations to your correspondent, “Disgusted,” for his splendid effort in to-night’s, ‘Star.’—l am, etc., Also Disgusted.
