•—Ministerial.—• The Minister of Lands and ActingMinister of Agriculture (Hon. F. Langstone) arrived yesterday afternoon and .is staying at Wain’s Hotel. This morning he visited Brighton to discuss matters concerning the domain, and later he received private deputations. This afternoon he performed the official opening ceremony in connection with the Otago A. and P. Society’s annual winter snow. Mr Langstone will deliver a public address in the Burns Hall to-morrow night, and on Sunday will pay a visit to the Papanui small farms’ settlement on Otago Peninsula. He leaves for the north on Monday, and before returning to Wellington wilt spend, some days in South Canterbury.

Mr R. B. Tennent, director of the> Fields division of the Department of Agriculture; left this morning for Wellington. Mr A. J. Geddes, one of the South Island Rugby selectors, was a through passenger from Invercargill for Christ* church by the express this morning. The retirement from the Otago Provincial Council of the Union of Messrs A. Grant (Taieri) and C. E. Norrish (Owaka) is notified in the annual report of the union. Mr Grant has represented . the union on the Wheat Electoral Committee for a number of years, and his services in. this direction will he much missed. The vacancies will be filled by Messrs W. ; J. Marshall (Taieri) and D. Finlayson (Owaka). Professor C. L. Bennet, son of Mr. and Mrs Charles Bennet, of Gore, is expected to arrive in New Zealand by, the Mariposa on June 10 andl to remain for an extended vacation, # returning to Canada by the Aorangi in September. After serving overseas, Mr Bennet was awarded an N.Z.E.F. scholarship for three years at Cambridge University. After obtaining hi« degree with honours in English literature, he intended to return to New Zealand, but, in view of conditions of employment at the time, he was advised by' the High Commissioner to seek a pasiiica elsewhere. In 1922 he was appointed lecturer in English in Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of the five major Canadian universities, and the largest university east of Montreal. With the exception of two years spent in graduate study at University, Professor Bennet has remained on the staff of Dalhousie University, where he is now head of the department of English. He is editor of several school and college texts widely used throughout Canada and in Newfoundland. His last visit to New Zealand! was in 1924. Latest guests at the Excelsior Hotel are Mr H. L. Bexley (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs Chapman (Kurow), Mr E. P. Curtis (Ranfurly), Mr Thomson (Wairepa), and Miss Lilian Browning (Invercargill). Guests at Wain’s Hotel are Mr G. D. Cadden (Sydney), Mr D. Henderson (Auckland), the Minister of Lands (Mr F. Langstone), and Mr E. H. Wakelin (Wellington), Mr E. H. Ingle (Christchurch), Mr J. R. Leach and Mr R. J.
