When the celebrated Beau Nash was ill, Dr Cheyne wrote a prescription for him. The next day the doctor, coming to his patient, inquired if he had followed nis prescription. ‘‘ No, truly, doctor,” said Nash. “If I had. 1 should have broken my neck, as [ threw it out of a second story window.” An air raid precautions official points out that it is a good idea for people with gas masks to wear them frequently, so as to get used to them. A poker player with a frank and expressive face says he has already benefited considerably by this advice.
