MONDAY BOXING CONTESTS

DOUBLE PROFESSIONAL BILL ’ Tho biggest bill of boxing fare presented in Dunedin for years will be staged by the Otago Boxing Association at tho Town Hall on Monday night, when two professional contests will bo staged, and a special amateur four-round bout will be presented in support. Clarrie Marshall, the brilliant Gisborne welter-weight, is meeting Stan. Jenkin, ex-welter-weight_ champion of the Dominion, and their bout over 12 three-minute rounds should be fast and willing from gong to gong, both men being excellent boxers and carrying a hefty wallop. Marshall’s class is indicated by his fine win on Monday night over the Auckland Association’s Australian importation, Cyril Pluto, and in addition he has built up a splendid record as an amateur and professional. In the amateur ranks he beat such outstanding men as Rocky Reid (now in Australia), George Low (who is meeting with success in England and was formerly New Zealand amateur middle-weight champion), and many others. Jenkin’s record and ability is well known to local followers of boxing, and, as he is putting on weight and should soon be in the middle-weight class, his fighting should be stronger and even more vigorous than hitherto, and that is saying something. The other professional match is over 10 rounds, and will be fought at a limit of 9.5, tho contestants being Jim Mitchell, of Christ church, and Lex Greanev, of Dunedin. The amateur contest will be between Neil Lcckie, of Dunedin, and B. Newton, of Oainaru, and this should be a clever display of boxing.
