The attendance was very small when the first race was run, and the totalisator investments on the opening race were £B7l less than last year’s total. At the far turn Donor drew away and entered the straight three lengths clear of Cyrano, and maintained that margin to

Going to the far turn the field closed up, and Harold Wrack led into the straight from Embark, Great Divide, Civic, and Marlene. Embark than headed Harold Wrack, but halfway down the running was challenged by Great Divide, and in an exciting finish the latter scored by a head. Marlene was a length and a half away third, closely followed by Snowy de Oro, Credit Funds, and Civic. Times: 2min 8 2-ssec, 2min 8 4-ssec, 2min 9sec.

Going to the mile post, Renown’s Best took charge from Morello and Ginger Jack, who had been racing on the outside, ran up into third place. Renown’s Best led Ginger Jack, Morello, and Cloudy Range into the final lap, and as they raced along the back Renown’s Best had Ginger Jack on her wheel, with Morello on the rails next. Ginger Jack was on even terms with Renown’s Best as they turned into the straight a good length in front of Morello, with Carver Doone next. Morello got a good clear run down the straight, and .hitting the front opposite the lawn stand, won by a length and a-half from Carver Doone, who beat Renown’s Best a neck.
