“MARCH TO NATIONHOOD" TROPHIES DISTRIBUTED BY AUSTRALIAN MINISTER Praia Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, May 9. Marking the end of the anniversary celebrations, the trophies won by New Zealand and America during the recent pageant of Australia’s March to Nation* hood were to-day presented by Mr J. Duhningham, Minister in charge of festivities. Mr ,W. Lee Martin (New Zealand Minister of Agriculture), who is on route to the Agricultural Conference at Canberra, received New Zealand’s trophy, a silver plinth surmounted by a' map of Australia within a circle and bearing the celebration’s emblem symbolising Australian native life. It will be recalled that the New Zealand float gained first prize in the historical section of the pageant. Mr Dunningham congratulated New Zealand on gaining the coveted prize with an exhibit that ranked high in a memorable procession. He emphasised that between America, New Zealand, and Australia there must be a permanent link for the control of the Pacific, and ; nothing must be allowed to destroy the existing cordial relations. Mr Martin acknowledged the sentiment, and expressed his belief, that the recent reunion of ex-soldiers had done more to cement friendship between the two dominions than anything that had happened hitherto. Mr. W. Taylor, the New Zealand Trade Commissioner, arid Mr A. H. Cockayne; New Zealand Director of Agriculture, attended. the ceremony.
