ISOLATED SHOWERS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, .Riverton, Orepuki, .Halfmoon Bay:— A shallow depression 'crossed the South Island last night, and its northern extension is now moving off the North Island. An anti-cyclone ia centred over the south-west Tasman Sea, and approaching the DominionForecast: Moderate to fresh -southwest to westerly winds, gradually decreasing. A few isolated showers probable at first on the coast, but weather mainly fair to fine. Temperatures cold, with some . inland frosts. Seas moderate to rather rough, bat decreasing. BLEAK CONDITIONS. Heavy, steady rain was experienced in Dunedin early last evening,: and was followed by showery, bleak conditions towards midnight. The rainfall i amounted to .2in over 24 hours yesterday. A cold snap persisted to-day, for despite some sunshine there was a chilling south-westerly wind.- Noon at the Gardens found the maximum thermometer registration at 51.5 deg, while the minimum was 43.6 deg; barometric pressure was rising in the city at 30.05 in Yesterday, over a period of 24 hours, the respective; temperatures were 60.3 and 41.5 deg.
