NAPIER-WAIROA ROAD CLOSED

MAIL ARRANGEMENTS TO MEET DIFFICULTY The Chief Postmaster advises that as the reopening of the Napier-Wairqa road is indefinite all mails, except air mails, for Gisborne and Wairoa are being despatched via Frankton Junction and Taneatua, except when suitable despatches by sea are offering from Napier. The air liner time-tables have been amended, and mails are despatched by this means from Gisborne at 6.50 a.m. and noon daily, reaching Napier one hour later, and from the latter place for Gisborne at 8 a.m., 10.25 a.m., and 2 p.m. Another machine leaves Palmerston North at 1 p.m. after arrival df_ the southern air mails for Napier, arriving there at 1.50 p.m. and leaving again at 2 p.m. to reach Palmerston North at 2.50 p.m. Air mails from Dunedin can still reach Napier at 2 p.m. and Gisborne at 3 p.m. on the day of despatch, but the inward mails will not reach Dunedin until the following day.
