EIGHT PRISONERS SENTENCED [Pee United* Peess Association.] HAMILTON, May 10. Eight prisoners were sentenced by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, to-day. Charles Edward Crews_ (49), late of Oparau, who pleaded guilty to the theft as a servant when secretary and organiser of the Oparau Co-opera-tive Dairy Company Ltd., was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Patrick Joseph Ryan, a labourer, of Orini, 47, who pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault on a male, was admitted to probation for two years. Henry Leonard Slight, a farm labourer, of Te Aroha, who pleaded guilty to charges of theft and false pretences in respect to a ■ cheque, was also admitted to two years’ probation and ordered to make restitution. Thomas Ch ristian Jensen (42), a farm labourer, of Te Puke, for forgery and uttering, was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment. Found guilty of unlawful carnal knowledge, George Eketone, a Maori labourer, of Kawhia, was remanded until Friday to allow counsel to consider the matter with a view to seeing if imprisonment could be avoided. Found guilty of negligent driving and causing death, Bernard Zinsli, a labourer, of Te Kuiti, was fined £3O and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. In addition the accused’s driving license was, cancelled, and he was prohibited from obtaining another for three years. On a similar charge Albert Thomas Jones, of Tauhei, was fined £SO and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution, and his license was suspended. The owner of the oar, James Alfred Jones, was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment.: ■ ;
