CYRIL PLUTO IN ENGLAND WELTER LOSES TWO DECISIONS “ They barred it—at least, they did not like it, and I had to cut it out.” Cyril Pluto, the well-known Austra--lian welter-weight boxer, who on his previous appearances in the Auckland boxing ring impressed so much with bis style and speed, has returned to take part in further matches in the Dominion. He had the fastest left rip seen in an Auckland ring for many years, a spectacular straight shot for his opponent’s body which repeatedly brought him points (says the Auckland ‘ Star ’). Since Auckland saw him last, Cyril Pluto has travelled far. He visited England and South Africa. In England he had two matches, losing on points to both Roderick and Erne. It was in recalling those two matches that Pluto said that English referees barred the left rip, although it is regarded as a legitimate blow in both New Zealand and Australia. The Australian said that he could not get acclimatised in England, and more often had to breathe fog, and not air. While there he boxed with Tommy Farr, the Welsh heavy champion, and saw most of the leading boxers in training. He bad many offers to take part in matches. Some were from Germany, but as a visitor cannot take money out of that country he did not consider them. When be we n’t on to South Africa there were more attempts to get him into the ring, but he was on holiday bent. Pinto was outpointed in Auckland on Monday by Clarrie Marshal], who appears in Dunedin on Monday night.
