SOUTHLAND MEETING THIS HORNING'S TRACK WORK (Pn Oviteo Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, May 10. Rain fell during training operations this morning, but was of short duration, and the conditions were favourable for most of the morning. All fast work was done on the course proper, 3Qft ,out from the rails, and the going was heavy in places after rain overwas the first to work, and he ran a mile in Imin 55sec, the last half in 69sec. He was under a nice hold all the way. ... Waitoru and Invadere beat Aspire by 10 lengths over seven furlongs in Imin 37sec, the last half-mile in 56 4-ssec. Waitoru and Invadere finished on ‘vvell, and their time was the best for the morning over that distance. Aspire commenced to fade over, the last three furlongs, and while the going may have troubled her, it is possible that she was loafing, ■ as she is not. always honest on the track. Recall beat Dalrympl© easily over seven furlongs in Imin 38 2-ssec, the last half-mil© in 57 3-Ssec. Coxcomb, Amelita, and Galleon ran the heat mile of the morning, the distance in Imin 62sec, the first four-furlongs in 54 4-sseo and the last half-mile in 57 l-ssec.' Coxcomb and Amelita were responsible for all the pace, and just shaded Galleon, who, however, stood them up a good start in the first half-mile and then closed on them in the straight after covering a lot of extra ground. Johnny and Barley Almond ran a mile in Imin 53 4-ssec, the last halfmile in 58sec. Johnny was going much better at the finish, and had a lot in reserve.

Western Song ran five furlongs in 1 ; min 9 l-ssec, and could have done better.

Moneyless was not extended to heat Mona’s Song and Foxlove over seven furlongs in Imin 38 2-ssec, the last four: in 59 3-ssec. Foxlove is a lazy worker, but Mona’s Song was all at sea in the going, and she may not be a starter, on Saturday if the track is heavy. Bu'rwood, Wild Irishman, Grand Finale, Baltruin, and Triple Cone were among the horses that did useful pace work. * No northern horses have appeared on the scene so far.
