TWO NEW ZEALANDERS BANNED GAVE INTERVIEWS TO PRESS Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 6. 'The Lord Chamberlain's Office cancelled arrangements for the presentation at Court of two New Zealanders, Miss Kathleen O’Brien , and Mrs William Webster. It is believed that interviews which the women gave to the newspapers gave rise to the decision, which has been communicated to New Zealand House. Misa O’Brien is at present working as a hostess at an hotel in Manchester. Mrs Webster was a member of the New Zealand delegation to the Coronation. and was present at the service in Westminster Abbey and at the Royal garden party. At present she is acting as a hostess at a store in Liverpool while undergoing medical treatment. Miss O’Brien is quoted by newspapers' as saying; “ I will have no trouble in curtseying, as I have taught it to debutantes in New Zealand.” ■ Mrs Webster, in an interview, said that she had become bored in Liverpool, and had offered her. services to the store for charity. Mrs Webster told the ‘ Daily Herald ’ that “ the Lord Chamberlain’s decision is a bitter blow to my hopes. I have had to" visit London frequently, to supervise the making of my Court gown, and I have had to resign my position as a fashion hostess.” DECISION BEING RECONSIDERED LONDON, May 7. The ‘ Sunday Graphic ’ states that an official says that the Lord Chamberlain (the Earl of Cromer) is reconsidering the decision, as the ladies concerned may nob have been aware of the rule against interviews, or may have forgotten it.
