UNEMPLOYED WORKERS' MOVEMENT

The general meeting of the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement' was held in tha Trades Hall on Tuesday evening. Mr G. Cocking presided over a fair attendance of members.. Correspondence was received from-the- Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works; Mr A, Cook, general secretary to the New Zealand Workers’ Union; the certifying officer, Dunedin; Public Works Engineer, Dunedin; the Hon. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour; the New Zealand Labour' Party, Waihola unemployed, Xaieri River Trust, and general secretary ol the National Unemployed. Workers' Movement, Wellington.; The organising report _ showed that. five new members had joined up, eight had received full-time work, two ’bad been transferred to other unions, li was agreed to send a copy of the letter received from the Minister of. Public Works to the Waitati camp job, and' the letter from the Labour Bureau' wa* held in abeyance until the next meeting on May 3. The list of nominations for president;, vice-president, s«6retary, and executive was read out to the meeting, and these posts will be decided by ballot at the next meeting. The secretary presented a comprehensive report on his visit to both the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement and the Federation of Labour conferences in Wellington. This was adopted and thanks for. his services tendered'. A collection was taken up on Behalf of the local Spanish Medical Aid Com. mittee. No complaints were received fron groups.
