THE SESSION RESUMED
ONLY OBITUARY RESOLUTIONS TO-DAY [From Oor Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, March 1. When the House of Representatives meets this afternoon it will not be necessary to approve the alterations in the Customs duties affecting Canada and Australia. These operate by Order in Council, a somewhat unhsual procedure, but one having statutory authority in connection with the trade negotiations which the Minister of Customs was to conduct. Business, therefore, will be confined to obituary resolutions, the deceased legislators being the Hon. D. Buddo (Kaiapoi), Mr Hugh Poland (a former member for Ohinemuri), Mr T. A, H. Field (Nelson), Mr T. Lindsay Buick (Wairau), and Mr J. E, Jenkinson (a former member of the Legislative Council).
Mr Jenkinson’s introduction to politics was particularly interesting. He was included in the first batch of nominated members appointed by Ballance to offset obstruction to Liberal legislation by life members-of the Upper House,-these seven-year appointees being christened the “ Twelve Apostles.” Mr Buddo had a record of 26 years’ service in the House of Representatives. On completion of .the condolence motions, the House will adjourn.
