REPORTS AND RETURNS MARTHA OPERATIONS 5.350 OUNCES FROM 22,004 TONS. The following information has been cabled to the London office of the Martha Gold Mining Company (Waihi) Limited;— For the period ended February 12, comprising 28J crushing days, 22,004 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 5,350 nne ounces of gold and 35,633 fine ounces of silver. •This included 89 tons mined from Grand Junction area, which yielded 28 fine ounces of gold and 97 fine ounces of silver. No. 4 Level.—On the vein at 115 ft in the Lovett south-east cross-cut have driven a further 26ft east, making a total of 62ft. The reef is split up and work is stopped. Wast, a further 27ft has been driven, and the lode looks more promising. No. 5 Level—'Lode at Soft in the Taylor cross-cut: Driving west; the next 10ft assays 12s 6d a ton. The width of the lode is about 3Jft. No. 6 Level.—North branch of the Martha lode: The Cross-cut at 600 ft west is in a total of 109 ft. At 36ft in there is a vein of quartz 6in wide of good grade. From 60ft to 73ft is a mixture of quartz and country of little or no value. The next foot is quartz, also of little or no value. NEW RIVER From a yardage of 10,000 treated in 118 hours’ dredging time, the New River Company’s dredge recovered 20oz of gold during the week ended on Thursday last. MATAKI The Mataki return for the week ended February 27 was 31oz for 123 hours’ work and B,6ooyds. BUND! DREDGE It has been decided to check bore the Bundi Company’s area on Chinaman terrace, and also to recondition the dredge. WHITE'S ELECTRIC A total of 4-..0z of gold was obtained by White’s Electric dredge for the week ended on Friday, the dredging time being 124 hours. GILLESPIE'S BEACH The Gillespie’s Beach Gold Dredging Company Ltd. report that for the week ended February 25 the dredge worked 118 hours to recover 36oz5dwt from 12.600yd5. The dredge was working on the beach sMe of the cut.
