STAR HELD HOSTAGE
Ray Milland was held hostage for the price of 250 lunches recently while on location at Sau Marino with RKO Radio’s ‘ Wise Girl,’ in which he costars with Miriam Hopkins. The company was doing night shooting, and had expected to quit shortly before midnight. When it was discovered that they would bo delayed, Kenneth Holmes, assistant director, limited up an all-night sandwich stand and arranged for coffee, hot soup, chili, pi®,
etc., for the troupe. When the last of the cast and crew were finishing their meal it was discovered that Leigh Jason, the director, and Lou Ransome, business manager, had disappeared. Ransome was the man who had to pay the bill. “ Okay,” said the proprietor of the eating stand. “ I’ll just hold Mr Milland here until the money is paid over.” While Holmes hunted for Ransome, Milland smoked and drank coffee, “ prisoner ” in the lunch wagon. It was half an'hour before ho was released.
