WAITAKI COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Waitaki County Council was held yesterday, there, being present Crs J. Rodman (chairman), J. S. Adams, D. J, Ross, S. M. Taylor, J. D. Rutherford, E. S. Brewster, D. Rodger, W E. Aubrey, and R. B. Meek. Treasury notes were received as follows:—Highway subsidies, £1,021 18s Id; State highway refunds, £92 15s. The Automobile Association (North Otago) was granted permission to hold a hill-climbing contest'* on the Coalpit Hill road. The Kurow Vigilance Committee asked that streets be renamed as follows:—Main street to be Bledisloe street; Bridge street to be Ranfurly street; Station street to be Liverpool street; Brown street to be regarded as a continuation of Wynyard street.— Agreed to. . The Pukeuri Hall Committee asked for a footpath at the school corner.— Referred to Cr Brewster and the foreman for attention. R. J. Gray (The Dasher) asked that drains on the Mount Stalker road receive attention,—Referred to the engineer for attention.
The Otago Provincial Centennial Council advised that it had approved of the proposed Plunket and rest room as a centennial memorial for North Otago, provided the necessary finance was arranged locally.—Referred to the joint borough and county committee. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote for copies of historical pamphlets issued by the council for centennial purposes.—Referred to the clerk. The Department of Internal Affairs sought particulars of dogs registered in the county.—Referred to the clerk. The New Zealand Forestry League asked for assistance in compiling a list of scenic areas not publicly owned or controlled, with the object of endeavouring to ensure their permanent j>reservation.—Referred to the clerk. The Minister of Internal Affairs asked for particulars of any Coronation memorial tree-planting schemes carried out in the district, for inclusion in an Empire record of all planting and amenity schemes commemorating the Coronation.—Referred to the clerk. It was decided to forward a remit to the annual conference of the Counties’ Association asking for an investigation into the exemption from rates of public halls erected on reserves set aside for recreational purposes. The tender of Messrs John Burns and Co. (Christchurch), of £1,383 17s
lid for pipes for the Kurow water supply scheme was accepted. Accounts totalling £5,093 6s were passed for payment. Three permits, for buildings valued at £875, were issued. The following tenders were accepted: —1,320 c. yards of gravel on Glenn Settlement road, J. Mulligan and Son, £231; 1,360 c. yards of gravel on Cant’s road, J. W. Bradfield, £l9B 6s Bd. It was decided to tar seal Waitaki Avenue, provided the High School Board contributes £SO. ,
