SHOWS
I had the pleasure of paying a visit to the Middlemarch and Clinton shows last week. • I was very much surprised to find after the dry conditions of the past season such beautiful specimens of annuals staged, especially at Middlemarch. Zinnias, petunias, phlox, and asters were outstanding. -The zinnias were beautiful in colour and size. The vegetables certainly showed signs of the dry conditions, but were very clean; from disease. In the decorative section a great deal of the work was up to the standard of our local shows,, especially the bouquets.' As a matter of fact, this section was of a high order. The entries were The staging at Middlemarch was car-i' ried out in a very efficient manner by a hard-working committee and secretary. There' is no doubt that the people take a great interest in horticuD tural work in these districts. ■ F.S.P.
