(Received February 25, at 11 a.m.) The ‘ Daily Mail ’ says: Mystery surrounds the Government’s cable and wireless discussions. Some say the deal is off, while others declare that it is merely held up. The discussions centred around a reduction of the company’s payment of £250,000 a year tothe Post Office, the beam system, and the question of a capital sum contribution or a comparatively small annuity in respect of the maintenance of the submarine cables, in view; of their strategic importance. Meanwhile Cables and Wireless stock is higher in expectation of a 4 per cent, dividend.
