UNCERTAIN UNDERTONE

AUSTRALIAN MINING ISSUES DECLINE ERRATIC PERIOD FOR WOOLWORTHS LTD. An easier trend in New York and London and a fall in the base metals market introduced an uncertain undertone in the investment market _ this morning. Australian mining issues dropped back sharply, losing all of yesterday’s advances. Business was poor, call-room' quota being restricted to one stock. Banks showed little variation on late rates. Now Zealands were marked up to unanswered holders £2 3s 6d, but the improvement was counterbalanced by a 3d loss in Commercials, final vendors quoting 16s 9d. Transtasman industrials closed uncertain. Broken Hill Proprietaries lost 6d to unsupplied buyers £3 2s, but the contribs. maintained recent values. Dunlop Rubbers were quietly steady between £1 2s lOd and £1 3s 3d. Woolworths (Sydney), after an erratic market yesterday; during which the stock sold up to £1 8s in Dunedin, and as high as £1 9s 6d in.
