F«JM BEQUEST PRIZES r The awards of the Fulton Bequest for the beet papers presented by any member of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers in one year were announced at the evening session yesterday of the annual conference of the institution by Mr F. W. Furkert, on behalf of the trustees. The gold medal award was presented to Mr F. H. Collins, 8.E., of Wellington, for his paper on ‘ Designed Workable Concrete,’ a special award was made to Mr P. J. Aliev, 8.E., of Invercargill, for his f
paper on ‘ Soil Mechanics of the Southland Koad-making Materials,’ and the silver medal, for the best paper by a student, to Mr E. H. Caxew, of Napier, for his paper on 1 Oxygen Cutting Metals.’ Mr Furkert said that considerable difficulty had beeli experienced in separating the first three papers, and the small difference between the first and second justified the trustees in awarding a special prize to the runner-up. Mr Carew’s contribution was of a very high order, and one of which any full member could have been proud. The awards were presented by the retiring president of the institution (Mr J. M‘G. Wilkie).
