WANDERED INTO RIVER. 'A three-year-old - child, John Pound, the only son of Mr and Mrs Frederick D. Pound, of Lower Hutt, was drowned in the Hutt River near his parents’ home at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon. He apparently wandered down' to the river, undressed, donned a bathing costume, and got into the water, which was 6ft or 6ft deep. . A boy and girl, son and daughter of Mr and Mrs F. ,J. Tansey, shortly after heard a sound from the river, and saw the child Pound floating in midstream, _ A moment later he disappeared. They immediately raised the alarm. The body was recovered last night. THROWN FROM INVALID CHAIR. When his invalid chair apparently got out of control in Sydney street, Wellington, Mr Xremawan, of Homewood Avenue, Karori, was thrown to the ground and received severe head injuries, from which he died in hospital at 2 p.m. yesterday. THROWN FROM riORSE. An Otaki Association message states that. Miss Doreen. Flanagan was heavily thrown from a horse yesterday and received concussion and_severe injuries. She was taken to Palmerston North Hospital, and her condition is serious. DEATH OF CHILD. Vivienne Joan Taylor, four years of acre, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs William Taylor, of Ashley Downs, near Clinton, died suddenly on Monday afternoon. The child had been for an outing on Sunday with her parents and other members of the family to the Pomahaka River. She then seemed all right ■ but after dinner on Monday she appeared to be unwell and was put to bed The parents did not think she was seriously ill until 4 p.m., when Dr Radcliffe was sent for. When the doctor reached the house at 4.30. however, the child was dead. An inquest ' was opened yesterday morning at Balclutha before Mr A. E. Russell, district coroner, for identification purposes Df Radcliffe, in his evidence, stated that he was unable to state the cause of death. On the application of Constable M'Cormack,. of Clinton, who conducted the inquiry, the inquest was adjourned sine die. STRUCK BY CRICKET BALL, Struck on the face by a cricket ball while playing cricket at Bishopscourt last evening, William Broock, a youth residing at 58 Nairn street, sustained concussion and injuries to his lip. He was admitted to the Hospital at 8.30.
