WEDDINGS

HUNTER—BAIRD. On Monday evening in First Church a very pretty wedding was solemnised, the occasion being the marriage of Mavis Addie, only daughter of the late Mr C. Baird and Mrs Baird, of ißavensbourne, to Lloyd Elder, son of the late Mr Hunter and Mrs Hunter, of Balclutha. The (Rev. J. Cairney was the officiating minister, and Dr Galway presided at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride with masses of pink roses and hydrangeas. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr Ernest Baird, was charmingly gowned in a period frock of cream shimmer satin featuring a very long train. Narrow pleating edged the V neckline and wrists, with tiny buttons down the front of the skirt. A beautiful Brussels lace veil, lent for the occasion, was worn over the face and held in place by a coronet of pearls and orange blossom. A sheaf of lilies completed a _ charming ensemble. The bridesmaids. Miss Marjorie Simon, of Christchurch (cousin of the bride) and Miss Jean Roger, were attired alike in frocks of pink taffetas made on similar lines to the bride’s frock, with circular pink veils and topknots of real flowers, and they carried sheafs of pink roses. The bridegroom was attended by Mr Gus Pope as best man and Mr George Beath as groomsman' During the signing of the register a solo was rendered by Mr Arthur Lungley (cousin of the bridegroom). A reception followed by a dance was held in the Somerset Lounge, where over 100 guests were received by Mrs Baird (mother of the bride), who was attired in a model frock of sapphire blue lace with hat and shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of lemon roses. Mns Baird was assisted by Mrs Hunter (mother of the bridegroom), who wore a navy blue frock and hat, and carried a bouquet of gold roses. Mr and Mrs Loyd E. Hunter left the following morning by the north express, the bride travelling in a navy, pin stripe costume with accessories to tone. Their future home will be in Christchurch.
