WEEK-END SURFING

BATHERS WARNED Within the prescribed areas on the three main beaches week-end surfing conditions promise to be quite good. The water is mild at all three places, and there is a fair surf running, this being heavier at St.’ Kilda and St. Clair than at Tomahawk. At St. Clair the lagoon has deepened, and should be watched. Bathers are warned to keep between the flags, and not to venture too far out. Similar advice is offered for the benefit of those patronising the St. Kilda beach. At Tomahawk flags are in position at the bridge end and at the far end. Within these areas the beach is in good condition. In the large area between the two restricted areas, however, the beach is in a very bad state. There are many holes and channels, and this morning dangerous rips were in evidence in this part. To venture into the surf outside the flagged sections will be a direct invitation to danger.
