The final of the rinks in the North Otago Ladies’ howling tournament was played off yesterday morning between two Waimate rinks, the victory being gained by a single point. Mesdames Black, Lewis, Gunn, Reeve 21 beat Mesdames Bray, Richards, Healey, Grant 20. Mrs Reeve early established a substantial lead, being 8 up at the turn of the board, which she maintained to the 17th, when the score read 21— 15 in her favour. Mrs Grant then reduced the margin, and required a 3 in the final end to tie. Mrs Reeve was lying two shots, when Mrs Healey played a nice running shot to carry the jack through for two, hut Mrs Grant failed to add another counter, and finished 1 down. MOTHERS’ UNION. The first meeting of the Newhorough Branch of the Mothers’ Union this year was held in the church room on Thursday afternoon. There was a large attendance, including members of St. Luke’s Branch and members from Enfield, Windsor, and Kia Ora.
