When David Scroggie, aged of Auckland, was sentenced in the Geelong Court to-day for false pretences the magistrate asked the police to see whether there was any means by which tho man could be sent back to New Zealand, adding that otherwise Victorians would bo paying to keep in gaol a man who had only been out of a New Zealand gaol a month. Scroggie admitted 23 convictions In Now Zealand for false pretences. Evidence was given that he represented himself as agent for an advertising firm, and collected £1 4s each from two Geelong firms. Scroggie said ho was known as “ tho Wizard from the North.”
