Revised ports of call for the Union Steam Ship Company’s trans-Pacific cargo vessels Limerick and Wairuna, cn route to Vancouver, are advised. The Wairuna will leave Dunedin about the end of this month for Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, thence Lautoka direct, Suva, Apia, Papeete, San Francisco, and Vancouver. Limerick will leave Sydney in midApril for Suva, Lautoka-, Suva again, Papeete, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. WELL-KNOWN TRAMPS SOLD. The well-known Hain line tramp steamers, Trewyn and Trematon, which have been frequent visitors to Australia, have been sold to foreign owners. The Trewyn has been renamed Moni Itickmers by the Kickrners line, of Hamburg, and the Trematon is now the Jurgo Topic, under the Jugoslavian flag. SHIPS SUNK IN WHANGPOO. In the latest supplement to ‘ Lloyd's Register of Shipping,’ five small Japanese steamers are reported as totally lost. The ships were owned by the Japan-China S.S. Co., and were deliberately sunk to block the Whangpoo River. WAIWERA’S FAST PASSAGE.

Although sho did not travel at full speed, the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s motor ship Waiwera made what is believed to be a record trip from Bluff to New Plymouth by completing the voyage of 593 miles in 363 nours, an average speed of 16.23 knots, Captain W. C. Meet, commander of the Waiwera, stated that he had no intention of attempting a record. In fact, the vessel could have arrived earlier, but in the last six hours of the trip speed was slackened so that the ship would arrive at 6 a.ra., which is the earliest time that an overseas vessel can he berthed at a port. The trip was comparatively smooth until Cook Strait was reached. There they ran into a strong north-westerly wind, and at the same time visibility was poor. The Waiwera, a modern motor ship, is one of the fastest in the New Zealand trade, and is noted for her exceptionally smart passages. RANGITIKI FOR AUCKLAND. DUE TO-MORROW MORNING. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a wireless message from its motor liner Rangitiki, en route from London via Kingston and the Panama Canal, reporting that she expects to reach Auckland at 5 a.m. to-morrow. She is due at Wellington about February 19 to complete discharge. PIAKO REPORTS. A wireless message has been received from the Piako, en route from New York, reporting that she expected to reach Auckland at 3 p.m. to-day. She will later complete discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, and is expected here about February 24. PORT DENISON LEAVES ANTWERP. Cabled advice has been received by the Port Line that the Port Denison left Antwerp on Februarv 2 with basic slag for Auckland and New Plymouth. She is proceeding via Cape Town and Sydney, and is due at Auckland on March 28. PORT SYDNEY LEAVES NEWPORT NEWS. The Port Line has received cabled advice that the Port Sydney, from New York and Philadelphia, left Newport News on Monday for Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Sho i is calling at Kingston to load oranges, and is due at Auckland on March 7. PORT HUNTER AT LONDON. Cabled advice has been received by the Port Lino that the Port' Hunter reached London last Sunday morning. She left Napier on December 30 for London via the Panama Canal. AUSTRALIAN CONDITIONS. BRITISH OFFICERS ENVIOUS. Wages and labour conditions in Australian coastal ships are the envy of seamen whose livelihood is earned along the British coast, according to a recent article in the ‘ Nautical Magazine,’ the leading British magazine devoted to mercantile marine affairs. The article advocates Australian rates of pay and conditions as a standard to which British seamen should aspire. In British seamen should aspire.
