STREAMLINED LOCOMOTIVE

NEW ELECTRIC ENGINE SEVEN MORE TO BE BUILT Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright AUCKLAND, February 10. Built for the Wellington-Paekakariki main line service, the first streamlined electric locomotive to be constructed in England arrived at Auckland from Liverpool by the Federal Line steamer Cambridge. Partly _ dismantled for shipping, the locomotive ia carried in two cases as deck cargo, and will be unloaded at Wellington. The engine, which was shipped from the Preston works of the English Electric Company, is capable of drawing a 250-ton passenger train at 60 miles per hour and a 500-ton goods train at 45 miles per hour. To its design seven more electric locomotives will bo built in New Zealand for the same service and two of somewhat similar type for the Arthur’s Pass-Otira service.
