Newcomers Show Talent. Taking into consideration the short period during which W. Langley has been in charge ,of a school of instruction, his pupils show a marked improvement. There are mow 25 taking courses, some of whom show great promise and should give a good account of themselves in novice contests in the near future. Making his debut in the sport is W. Lowe, a brother of Des. Lowe. He should develop into a very good middleweight with a few more lessons. D. Anderson is a welter-weight who would do well if he applied himself more seriously to his training. D. Brown, a light-weight, shows promise, while E. Walker, a bantamweight, will be among the best in the gymnasium with a little more tuition. Frank Lahood is including road work in his training. Stan. Jenkin uses a very good method of training, and in his work-outs the professional appears to he at the top of his form. Dunedin’s well-known boxing referee, Mr Jadk Kilmartin, paid a visit to Langley’s school recently, when he gave the pupils some very useful advice. Biggest Side-stake Bout. If anything.comes of the much-talked-of £2,000 a-skle match between Len Harvey and Jock M'Avoy, it will be the biggest side-stake contest that has ever taken place in England. Indeed, apart from the Woolf Beridoff v. George Cooper bout ia South Africa many years ago, it is the biggest proposition of its kind ever known. From a promoter’s point of view it would be a good match, the men having met twice and each having gained a victory. Famous Second Dead. Joe Malone, one of the best fight seconds in America, fell dead last month from a heart attack. He had worked in the corners of such fighters as Gene Tunney, Max Schmeling, Johnny Dundee, and Henry Armstrong. Tom Keeney’s Nephew. Darcy Heeney, amateur light-weight champion of the Dominion, who is in the New Zealand boxing team to compete at the Empire Games, is a nephew of Tom Heeney, who fought Gone Tunney some years ago. Darcy Heeney is a son of Totn’s brother Jack, formerly middle-weight professional champion of New Zealand. He holds the Morgan Cup, and is skilful as well as brawny.
