HAWKE CUP MATCH SOUTH AUCKLAND V. MANAWATU [p EB United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., February 11. Winning the toss, South Auckland batted first in the challenge match against Manawatu for the Hawke Cup. The weather was humid, and rain commenced soon after the start. The wicket was in good order. T. and M. Lyon (brothers) opened slowly, but brightened up, and 22 came in the first half-hour. Sawdust was used three-quarters of an hour after the start, light rain falling steadily. In Murchison’s third over he bowled T. Lyon with a yorker. 34 l—H. Everest was the newcomer, starting scratchingly. The second wicket fell when M. Lyon cocked a ball up to M‘Vicar off Hatch. 49—2 18. M'Kenzie and J. Everest were together at noon, with another 10 runs on, when play was adjourned owing to the continued rain.
