(From Our Balclutha Correspondent.) VITAL STATISTICS. Vital statistics registered in Balclutha for November were: Births 13, deaths 6, marriages 3. The figures for November, 1936, were; Births 9, deaths 3, marriages nil. RAINFALL. The rainfall recorded in Balclutha for November totalled on six days, the maximum fall occurring on the 18th (.43in). For the corresponding month last year the rainfall was 3.65 in. ' ; CRICKET. The following is the position of the vaious teams in the South Otago cricket competitions:— A Grade.—Milton lead with 10 shield points, Kaitangata 'have 6, Clutha 5, and Owaka 3. ... , The B grade is much closer, four teams running within two points. ■ Lawrence lead with 9, Clutha and Waiwera each have 8, High School 7, Benhar 6, Milton 4, and Owaka so far have failed to gain a point. Clinton have entered a team in this competition, the second round of which commences on Saturday. BALCLUTHA SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Mr H. Holgate presided over the monthly meeting of the Balclutha School Committee. The Head Master reported that the roll number was 394 and that the attendance had been affected somewhat by colds. Mr A. E. Paterson, who had been on sick leave, had resumed duty. The pupils of the senior classes had been invited by Mr J. H. Stevenson to attend a special screening of pictures dealing with the Ford motor works, and spent an enjoyable and interesting time- The school clpses for the summer vacation on Friday, December 17. The report was adopted, and pleasure was expressed at Mr Paterson’s return to duty. It was decided to give all qo-operation possible to the Balclutha Swimming Club during “ Learn to Swim ” Week (December 12-18). The secretary of the Education Board notified the appointment of Mr Stanley M. M'Gregor, at present at Ratanui, to the position of seventh assistant at the school. The appointment was approved. It was decided to hold the annual school concert on Thursday, December 9. It was also decided to replace the present furniture in Standard IV. room with tables and chairs. Being the final meeting, of the year, the Chairman extended beet wishes for the holidays to members, these being reciprocated.
